Baltimore Orioles at Cleveland Indians, July 22, 2012: Fan Preview
News from Yahoo! Sports:
At this point it is difficult to determine what is going on with the Cleveland Indians. They teeter on the brink of self-destruction yet still are managing to keep themselves in the playoff race. The problem is if they keep playing the caliber of baseball they have, fans will be saying, “we always have next year” sooner rather than later.
Cleveland’s best chance at victory in this series comes on Sunday, July 22 as Josh Tomlin takes the mound against Zach Britton. Britton is still trying to recover from a shoulder injury and is not pitching at the caliber he was last season. He struggled in his first start of the season a few days ago against the Minnesota Twins leaving the Tribe to hope he still doesn’t have all his stuff back.
It has been an ugly series thus far with the team resorting to promotions such as back-to-back fireworks shows and a replica jersey giveaway on Sunday to lure in the fans. Entertainment has not been happening on the field lately leaving something needing to be done to appease the masses. Lets just hope it will soon be team drawi…………… continues on Yahoo! Sports

Stallings in front at True South Classic
News from Fox News:
Madison, MS – Scott Stallings is 6-under through 10 holes of his third round and holds a 4-stroke lead at the suspended True South Classic.
The tournament has been backed up by inclement weather all week, and Saturday was no exception at Annandale Golf Club. A 3 1/2-hour delay began the day, and second-round play wasn’t completed until late in the afternoon. Following the cut, players went off in a split-tee format, and they’ll resume at 8:00 a.m. (et) on Sunday.
Stallings has a significant lead at this point at 18-under, four better than Heath Slocum (6-under through 13) and second-round co-leaders Jason Bohn and Billy Horschel (both 1-under through nine).
If Stallings goes on to win, it would be his second PGA Tour victory after capturing The Greenbrier Classic last year.
The clubhouse leader is William McGirt (64), who is at 13-under 203 and alone in fifth place on the overall leaderboard. Woody Austin (66) and seven others are knotted in sixth at 12-under.
Defending champion Chris Kirk was in the hunt at the outset of Saturday’s play, but he lost ground and is nine shots off the pace with seven holes remaining in his third round.
Stallings entered the third round trailing the leaders by one, but caught fire right away to surge ahead.
He started innocently enough with a couple pars, but…………… continues on Fox News

Cell Phones (HAL?) vs. Humans: Welcome to ’2012: A Life Odyssey’
News from Huffington Post:
The children are out of school, summer events are on the calendar, families are gathering for barbecues and potlucks, and it’s just so darned great to pull the picnic tables out of the garage and get everybody together to… watch half the crowd bent over their cellphones texting, emailing, or giggling over some private joke.
Welcome to 2012: A Life Odyssey. Cellphones vs. Humans.
Remember HAL from 2001: A Space Odyssey? That crazy, monotone-voiced computer who came to life and attempted a coup aboard the spaceship? I’ll never forget that creepy, “Hello, Dave,” and half expect my much-too-smart phone to start greeting me as such with my morning coffee (though with the new “Siri” on the iPhone, we appear to be getting closer!). While Stanley Kubrick might have been a bit off in his estimation of where the world would actually be in 2001, it appears he was remarkably prescient about how powerful, ubiquitous, and overreaching technology would become.
Cellphones have been with us long enough now to no longer be considered a novelty. They are, in fact, perceived as essential as cars, TVs, and computers and I don’t necessarily disagree. The day I waited frantically at my son’s bus stop for over an hour without knowing if the bus had broken down or had, in fact, been early and my son was now m…………… continues on Huffington Post

Did You Know: Your Cell Phone Can Be Searched In Its Entirety If …
News from Patch.com:
OPENING STATEMENT:
I ran into this story from First Coast News in Jacksonville regarding the police’s ability to search your cell phone if you are arrested. The story references the case of State v. Ricardo Glasco out of the Fifth District Court of Appeals. The Fifth District Court of Appeals is based out of Daytona Beach.
Ricardo Glasco was arrested for possession of drugs. While he was in handcuffs, the police searched him and found his cell phone. When Glasco was booked at the jail, the police searched his cell phone and found text messages that revealed that Glasco intended to sell the drugs.
The question before the patch.com jury is whether police should be able to search your cell phone if you are lawfully arrested and use the information in your cell phone against you? The Glasco Court says yes. What is your position?
There are several cases cited in the court’s opinion and this will not be the last we hear of this issue. With your help and comments and outreach, perhaps we can get a definitive answer.
Before we call our first witness, let me be clear on my short-coming: I am not a criminal law attorney. I do not have the…………… continues on Patch.com

The Nuggets went down meekly to the defending NBA champions 102-84 at the American Airlines Center, their biggest loss of the season with a season-low point total, as they were unable to find multiple sources of offense and barely put up a fight.

5 Mobile Phone Stocks That Could Pop in 2012
News from TheStreet.com:
BALTIMORE (Stockpickr) — There have been a lot of eyes on the mobile phone industry in the last year. From the very high-profile failed merger attempt by AT&T (T) and T-Mobile to massive volatility in shares of Sprint Nextel (S), it’s no surprise that cell phone stocks have Wall Street’s attention right now.
Revenue growth has also been a major reason for investors’ infatuation with mobile communications companies. As the penetration rate on cell phones increased domestically, legacy telcos have seen their businesses shift from primarily landline sales to primarily mobile sales. A rising tide of mobile phone sales has essentially lifted all ships in the industry over the last decade. But not all cellular stocks are created equal — and right now, investors are heavily shorting plenty of names. That’s creating an opportunity for a short squeeze. >>5 Breakout Stocks to Eye for a Buy In case you’re not familiar with the term, a short squeeze is the buying frenzy that ensues when a heavily shorted stock starts to look attractive again to investors, causing share price to skyrocket. One of the best indicators of just how high a short-squeezed stock could go is the short-interest ratio…………… continues on TheStreet.com

Cellphone giant Verizon posts $ 2billion loss
News from Daily Mail:
By Ellen Connolly
Last updated at 1:28 AM on 25th January 2012
Verizon Communications, the second-largest U.S. phone company, paid dearly for putting iPhones in the hands of subscribers, reporting a disappointing fourth-quarter loss of $ 2.02billion.
This compares with a profit of $ 2.64 billion a year earlier, New York-based Verizon said on Tuesday.
The 2011 quarter saw the launch of the iPhone 4S, the second model to be sold by Verizon, and it was clear that many had been waiting for it. Verizon said it sold 4.3 million of them, and 7.7 million smartphones in total.
Shock loss: Verizon’s net loss was $ 2.02 billion for the fourth quarter of 2011, compared with a profit of $ 2.64 billion a year earlier
An iPhone that Verizon buys from Apple for around $ 600 is subsidised and sold in stores for $ 200 – Verizon figuring that it will make the money back in service fees over a two-year contract and consumers racking up higher bills.
The question is whether phone companies ever really make that money back.
That means the wireless division, though still highly profitable, posted a rare drop in operating income for the fourth…………… continues on Daily Mail

Cellphone makers can expect poor reception in 2012
News from Reuters:
By Tarmo Virki
Wed Jan 18, 2012 8:58am EST
(Reuters) – Cellphone makers are set to struggle with slow sales growth this year as a weaker global economy discourages consumers from replacing older handsets.
Fourth-quarter results are likely to show the slowdown under way. Apple’s long-awaited iPhone 4S and Samsung Electronics’ new, broad offering were likely the exceptions in an otherwise lackluster Christmas holiday season.
“The blowout quarter that Apple will report will show they are still the one to beat, while in the Android (operating system) camp … only a strong brand like Samsung can stand out,” said Gartner analyst Carolina Milanesi.
Apple, ousted as the world’s top smartphone maker by Samsung in the third quarter, could regain the No. 1 spot as consumers rush to buy the latest iPhone. It had been 16 months since the previous model went on sale.

Even though more than 30 states have banned or restricted cell phone use, it hasn’t been easy to convince drivers to stop.
States have long sought to restrict cell phone use by drivers because of safety concerns, and as the New Year begins, several states are toughening their cell laws.
It turns out it’s a hard habit to break. And it’s not easy to stay ahead of tech advances.

Cell phone warning nothing but bunk
News from South Coast Today:

Sometimes an email circulates warning people that cell phone numbers are about to be made public. The email continues to circulate even though regulators and independent websites have debunked the claim.
An recent example making the rounds goes like this: “Cell Phone Numbers Go Public this month …. all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.”
It goes on to say that cell phone customers will be charged for the telemarketing calls they receive, and it urges recipients to call the National Do Not Call Registry.
