Verizon Could Soon Serve Apple iPhone
Verizon Wireless may finally be on the verge of getting the
iPhone. According to a Wall Street Journal article, a new
iPhone is in the works and that Apple "appears to be
working on a model for U.S. mobile phone operator Verizon
Wireless."
Apple currently has an exclusive wireless relationship with
AT&T in the U.S. but patchy support has generated consumer
indignation for some time with users across the country complaining
of dropped calls and dead zones. When Apple unveiled the iPad
in January, its decision to stick by business partner AT&T
was perhaps the most shocking aspect of the tech giant's latest
gadget. Apple and AT&T signed that three-year exclusivity
agreement in June 2007.
The report is not exactly a surprise. Analysts and investors
have long expected Apple to end the arrangement under which
AT&T was the only U.S. carrier allowed to sell the iPhone.
Some have factored the end of AT&T's exclusive rights
into their forecasts for 2011.
