A new study from psychologists at the University of Utah suggests that very few people can safely drive while chatting on a cell phone.

Cell Phone Reception Critical to Hotel Choice

A survey commissioned by Repeated Signal Solutions (RSS) found that 54 percent of travelers who cannot get strong cell phone reception at a hotel may never return.

Similarly, most people won’t return to a meeting space or hospital/medical center with poor coverage either, the survey of 1,000 adults reveals. Specifically, 45 percent said they would not want to return to a meeting facility with poor coverage and 35 percent said they would not want to return to a hospital/medical center with poor coverage. The percentages were slightly higher for respondents between the ages of 35 and 54, with annual salary of $50,000 to $100,000.

Moreover, Scott Groff, president of Repeated Signal Solutions said there was a high demand for a cell phone friendly office space for receiving and sending calls and text messages through such devices as BlackBerries and iPhones.

He also highlighted the need of cell phone reception at the hospitals and medical centers. He explained the need for wireless connectivity for doctors, which “is correlated directly to patient health,” and to the loved ones of the patient who use cell phones to communicate with the patient. So, according to the survey, assuming respondents could keep their own doctors, 40 percent of those earning $50,000 - $100,000 would be ready to consider switching medical facilities.
